PANEL DISCUSSION – HARNESSING BUSINESS IMPACT ANALYSIS FOR OPERATIONAL CONTINUITY

Moderator: Peter Page, FTSE Head of Security

Panellists: Riyaz Somani, Head of Security, The British Library; Tristan Derry, Senior Manager – Crisis & Resilience, PwC UK; David Mounfield, Head of Security, Cadent Gas; Nigel Brown, Head of Corporate Security and Organisational Resilience, BBC

In an era defined by disruption, resilience is no longer a luxury. This session delves into how organisations can strengthen their ability to withstand, respond to and recover from security incidents through a structured, proactive approach. At the heart of this strategy lies Business Impact Analysis (BIA), a critical tool for identifying essential functions, assessing potential risks and planning for continuity. Our panel will explore the evolving role of BIA in organisational resilience, from scenario planning and risk assessments to prioritising recovery strategies for critical operations. With real-world examples and practical insights, we’ll explore how to translate analysis into action, ensuring that resilience is not just theoretical, but embedded in daily decision-making.

PRESENTATION – BRIDGING THE GAP: THE CONVERGENCE OF PHYSICAL AND CYBERSECURITY IN THE MODERN SOC

Speaker: Richard McClellan, Director, Advancis Software and Services

This short presentation explores the growing convergence between physical and cybersecurity, focusing on the strategic role of a modern Security Operations Centre (SOC) using a Physical Security Information Management (PSIM) or open integration platform. The talk will begin by outlining the evolving threat landscape, where physical breaches often have cyber-implications – and vice versa. It will then demonstrate how PSIM platforms unify disparate systems such as access control, CCTV and IT security tools into a unified interface, enabling more informed decision-making. Key use cases will highlight how integrated event management, real-time situational awareness and cross-domain automation empower SOC teams to respond more effectively to hybrid threats. The presentation will conclude by emphasising the operational and strategic benefits of this convergence, including improved incident response, regulatory compliance and organisational resilience.

PANEL DISCUSSION – FROM CONCEPT TO CONTROL: EMBEDDING ZERO TRUST ACROSS PHYSICAL-DIGITAL ENVIRONMENTS

Moderator: Jennifer Ciolfi, Group Director of Security, Global Switch

Panellists: Oliver Lacey, Head of Global Sales, Advancis Identity Solutions; David Vigor, Leads the European Business Development Team, Physical Access Control Solutions, HID; James Bore, Managing Director and Principal Consultant, Bores Group Ltd; Katie Barnett, Director of Cyber Security, Toro Solutions

Whilst leaders are recognising that the Zero Trust model is a strategic imperative, translating concepts into practical control remains a challenge. This panel brings together senior leaders and domain experts to explore how the idea of “never trust, always verify” can be operationalised across both digital and physical environments. From identity-based access and continuous verification to integrating cyber, OT and physical security, the discussion will focus on real-world execution, not theory. Attendees will gain actionable insights on aligning stakeholders, securing legacy systems and demonstrating Zero Trust value at the executive and board level. Designed for CISOs, CSOs and senior decision-makers, this session offers a grounded look at how to move from aspiration to action.

PRESENTATION – REFRAMING THE LEADERSHIP LANDSCAPE

Speaker: Ian Fox, Advisor, Author and Founder of Safer Spaces For All

Reframing the Leadership Landscape, literally reframes leadership as a systemic, human-centred practice designed for high-pressure, high-stakes environments. Rooted in rigorous interdisciplinary research; from organisational psychology to ecological resilience, it offers five pragmatic constructs: Continuity of Purpose, Dynamic Adaptability, Institutional Knowledge Retention, Structured Dissent, and Rest & Rotation. But this isn’t just theory. It’s a leadership ethos built for those who act when the plan fails, who lead across time zones and moral fault lines, and who know the difference between outputs and outcomes. Inspired by one of nature’s most unlikely survivors, LLF rejects heroism in favour of rhythm, recovery, and systems that outlast any one individual. Because in a world where what fails costs more than profit; it costs trust, sometimes lives. This framework doesn’t pretend to be a solution. It offers a blueprint to help you build something worth inheriting.

PRESENTATION – CRISIS COMMUNICATIONS: IDENTIFYING CERTAINTY OUT OF UNCERTAINTY

Speaker: Sophie Cairney, Lead Risk Intelligence Consultant, Securitas Risk Intelligence Center (RIC)

When a crisis hits, identifying certainty in an increasingly volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous (VUCA) security threat landscape has become far more time-consuming and challenging to navigate. Ensuring accurate, timely, relevant, and actionable communications are disseminated to the correct audience is becoming ever more prominent and integral to the protection of people, property, and assets. Using real-world examples, and analysing the key principles and practices of crisis communication, we will build on the understanding of how to tackle these challenges while maintaining trust, providing clarity, and ultimately delivering guidance for stakeholders to enable effective action when it matters most.

PRESENTATION – GETTING OUT OF THE BOXES

Speaker: James Bore, Managing Director and Principal Consultant, Bores Group Ltd.

We talk a lot about convergence in protective security. Are we actually training people to think that way? Domain siloes are still common across the security industry, so how do we train protective security advisors to look beyond surface-level boundaries and focus on the underlying principles? If we want people to respond confidently to the wide range of challenges they’ll face, we need to start with how we teach them to think.
